Playa Potrero

Potrero Beach (Playa Potrero) is located on the northwest Pacific coast of Costa Rica in the province of Guanacaste. This province stretches from Central Cordillera Mountain Ranges of Guanacaste and Tilaran in the east, along a mix of gently rolling hills and expansive horse and cattle ranches, to the beautiful beaches of the Pacific.

Potrero Beach sits in the heart of the best known beach region in Costa Rica. To the south, Playa Flamingo known for its fine white sand and home to the Flamingo Beach Hotel. Further along Playa Brasilito and Playa Conchal composed of tiny crushed sea shells and site of the luxurious Paradisus Playa Conchal Resort and Garra de Leon Golf Course.

Continuing down the coast is Playa Grande, annual nesting site for the giant leatherback turtles and the well know tourist destination of Tamarindo. To the north, another beautiful white sand beach Playa La Penca, Playa Prieta and Playa Azucar (Sugar Beach) and around the point Playa Zapotal.

Further north along the coast are the more developed areas of Playas Ocotal, Coco and Hermosa and the luxury resorts on the Gulf of Papagayo.

For the adventurous, there are a few remote and undeveloped beaches between Sugar Beach and Ocotal that are accessible only by boat, horseback or 4 wheel drive vehicles. There are dozens of national parks and wildlife refuges throughout Guanacaste and most can be visited on a day trip from Potrero.
